WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FIBRE?

Clothing is a massive industry that has created a high impact on the planet’s resources. Sustainable fibres are alternatives that are green, low impact on environment and can continue to be used by future generations without a depletion (say, as compared to oil). Sustainable fibres are sensitive to the kind of water consumption in making of the fibre (cotton being a very water intensive crop), the use of pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides, the effect on the soil and the farmers. Among the popular sustainable fibres are – Hemp, Linen, Bamboo.

BIO SILK- MICRO MODAL

Modal is a fabric made from the cellulose found in beech tree fibre. The production process of Modal involves very few chemicals and recycles most of the water and solvents used. The fabric dyes well, resists shrinkage and fading and is extremely soft.

REJUVENATING BEECH WOOD

The way that beech trees grow is something truly special. They multiply by “rejuvenation” which means that the trees propagate by themselves. No artificial irrigation or planting is required. Thus beechwood forests are a completely natural and sustainable source of raw material. More than half of the wood used at Lenzing comes locally from Austria and the remainder is from neighbouring countries. Beechwood from forests which apply prevailing forestry legislation and sustainable methods is used exclusively.

The production process uses Edelweiss Technology which is ‘closed loop’ – the production facility is in the midst of Austrian tourist area- that is how safe it is given stringent European Environmental laws.
